The Red Lion Inn in Milfield Village, Northumberland is a classic Wind Stone building dating back to the mid 1700's. Originally the Inn was frequented by the Sheep Drovers of the northern counties. Between 1785 and 1835 the Red Lion Inn became a major resting point for the Mail Stage Coach which carried passengers and mail between Edinburgh and London via Oldster and Newcastle.
The success of the Inn attracted other people to the area and soon the village of Milfield was born, building up around the Red Lion Inn to become the beautiful rural area it is today.
